Giresun, located on the Black Sea coast, is a city rich in history and culture. Since ancient times, it has been an important center during the Hittite, Colchis, Persian, Pontus, and Roman periods. In the Middle Ages, it came under Ottoman rule and became known for hazelnut production during the Republic era.

As of 2023, Giresun’s population is 461,712 and its area is 6,934 km². The city has a typical Black Sea climate with high humidity and heavy rainfall, supporting lush vegetation and productive agriculture.

Piraziz is a district in western Giresun, bordered by the Black Sea to the north, Bulancak to the east, Ordu-Gülyalı to the west, and highlands to the south. The district is named after İbrahim son of Pir Aziz from the Ottoman era. The first municipality was established in 1892, and it became a district in 1988. Historical sites include Bendehor Castle.

Ordu-Giresun Airport, opened in 2015, is the first airport in Turkey and Europe built on the sea, with a capacity of 3 million passengers annually.
